TIREWELL
TIREWELL 12V Compact
Air Compressor
150PSI Max.
Battery clamp and power socket compatible
Portable 12 volt dc air compressors are ideal for keeping in your vehicle or in your garage for maintaining the tire pressures on your vehicle.
There are a couple of things to note about these mini compressors:
When connected to your vehicle have the engine running because they do draw quite a bit of battery power.
Where possible connect directly to the battery and not the power socket. Most power sockets in vehicles only have a 10 – 15 amp rating. Some of these compressors draw 25 amps plus.
Not all 12v air compressors are made equal, though the advertising might have you think otherwise.
Many of these compressors state a maximum PSI pressure of 100 or more. This is only the stated maximum working pressure NOT what the compressor can pump to. (Although it should be) I think the marketing geniuses get a little carried away with numbers.
Most of the manufacturers will state that their product is good for cars SUV’s, motorcycles etc and say something like …inflates standard vehicle tire in 1.5 minutes (200/70/R18, 0-40psi) or Inflation Range: 0-45 PSI (auto tires), 0-100 PSI (bike tires).
As they say “the devil is in the details” you have to read the small print or in some cases between the lines.
When it comes to trucks and RV’s where many of these types of vehicles have tire pressures in the ranges of 80 – 110 PSI a compressor like the VIAIR 400P-RV will be required.
I learnt this lesson when I had a motor home. ARB ended up suppling me a compressor to do the job. But not before I had wasted money on two other models.
Air hose length
Power cord length
Current draw – amps
Duty cycle (the time a compressor can run before a required cool down period)
Buy a decent tyre pressure gauge. Rarely are the ones that come with a compressor accurate.
Powering air tools like spray guns, air wrenches or any other high consumption air tool that requires a constant supply of air at a set pressure.
